Sitka Spruce
A large coniferous evergreen tree also known as Picea sitchensis.
It is in the top 5 largest conifer trees in the world, behind; giant sequoia, coast redwood, kauri and west coast cedar. This makes it the largest species of spruce.
This tree is one of the only a few species that exceed 100 meters in height, making it the third tallest conifer species. This is only behind the coast redwood and the South Tibetan cypress
The name of this tree comes from a community in southeast Alaska where it is prevalent, However, Sitka Spruce can be found hugging the west coast of Canada and the US. It also continues into Northern California.
Sitka Spruce is known for its longevity, as the oldest known tree being just under 600 years old Because of its growth rate, however, larger sizes do not indicate long lived trees.
